Policy Library

| Policy Audit System | Monitor | Library | Client |

The Policy Library is the repository of policy snapshots captured by the Policy Monitor. It is a simple directory that is served via a web server consisting of:

  • “Domains” – Services being tracked and associated metadata.
  • “Snapshots” – Copies of each version of the tracked policies.
  • “Changelogs” – Easily consumable views of changes per run.
  • … various metadata files to facilitate expected uses of the data.

NOTE: Most files are plaintext, relying on epoch timestamps to track versions and recent changes.  Minimal use of XML format has been used when appropriate for metadata.

Mirroring the Policy Library:

You are encouraged to download a copy of the Policy Library and maintain your own live mirror of the data.  You can then use a Policy Audit Client (like the ISOC Firefox plugin) to query your copy rather than retrieving the data from other hosts.  Please contact J. Trent Adams (adams@isoc.org) if you would like to make your mirror publicly available to other users of the Policy Audit System, and if you would like your mirror to be “certified”.

NOTE: The Policy Library Master is updated every 3 hours, generating a new TAR file if a policy has changed.  Running rsync at roughly the same interval should ensure your mirror remains up to date (only the changes will be retrieved).  If you need to update your entire mirror using the TAR file, we suggest checking the “latest change” file and only updating your copy if it is different than your version.
